Sam's Art Project

Sam found hidden in his closet a kit for making a square cement garden stone. After reading the directions which suggested wearing a mask to mix the cement, we proceded ahead....outside. Sam measured the water, and did some of the mixing. The mask, however, was a little on the big side, and didn't provide much protection from the dust that happened when you dumped the mix into the bucket. It was cute, though.

Here Sam is getting the last of the instructions on how to keep his fingers spread and push them down into the cement.

The original plan was to have one handprint of Sam and one handprint of Ben. However, Ben didn't understand the instructions to keep his fingers spread and flat. Instead he put his hand into the cement, and GRABBED a nice big handful of it. That technique didn't provide the greatest results, so we "erased" Ben's fistprint, and Sam put his other hand in the mold. The kit came with several glass rocks and other colored rocks, as well as a small jar of glitter, so after the handprints were done, Sam decorated the stone with the rocks and glitter. After letting the mold harden for 2 days, we took it out of the mold, washed it off, and it is now in the dirt landscaping right by the front door. Be sure to check it out when you come to visit us.
