Sam's Field Day and Weekend Fun

Friday, Sam had his field day.  Severe storms were predicted and they go most of it in before the rain ended it early.  Here, Henry and Sam were holding a ball between them and they had to go a certain distance without dropping it.

We went to the zoo yesterday afternoon for a while, after everyone else was leaving.  A lamb had just given birth to two twin babies.  The white lamb struggled to stand up, but finally got the hang of it.

Ben enjoyed feeding the animals

Show off!

Sam is quite the hockey fanatic.  I decided to get tickets for Sam and I for game one of the CHL championship.  The Thunder lost 5-3, but we got to keep these cool thunder stix!

Sam's music program "Bugz"

The 2nd and 3rd graders had their musical program last night.  Their program's theme was about bugs, ants, picnics  lady bugs, and a stink bug.

Sam had a small speaking part.  His line was, "Wait till they have their food down in place and are settling down just right.  Just when they think how pleasant this is give them your very best bite!

There were several lightning bugs during this song.

Wichita Water Works II

It was a beautiful day today.  We took baths this morning and Ben wanted to go back to the Wichita Water Works park.  There are some small ponds/creeks that run down to the river.  In the ponds, there are small minnows, some carp, and today we found some dead crawdads.  The boys wanted the pinchers so I plucked those off.  Kind of gross, but oh well.

Should have worn shorts as the water was a little chilly, but the boys kept inching closer to the water.

Now, it's time to start rolling up the pant legs.  Sam and Ben were enjoying picking up mud and moss.

Now that they smell like sewer and their pants are half dry it's time to head home for another bath and to wash some clothes.  Sam said it was the best time he's ever had in his life.  We must live boring lives :)

Bendaroos

Well, it started with Sponge Bob Square pants and quickly moved on to Patrick and then Squidward, then Mr. Krabs, then Plankton.  Ben made Gary and the jelly fish.

Zoo Day

Today, Sam's class had zoo day.  Mom went for the morning which was cloudy and cold with wind blowing from the north.  Dad relieved mom around 12:15 so she could go with Ben on his field trip.  When I got there, it was time for "free time".  We had two hours to see the zoo.  The weather really cleared up and was beautiful.  I took six goof balls around the zoo.  It was a lot of fun!

Wow, it looks like a heart right between the lion's eyes.

Let's just say when I (Doug) got on the scale, the red lights maxed out.

Lots of babies today.

This video in the gorilla exhibit I think has been looping for 8 years straight.  It's the same video!!

Easter Weekend Fun

Sam and Brooke swinging on the saucer

Dad and Sam ran the 2 mile Easter Sun Run today.  Last year's time was 27.13, so we were determined to beat it.  We ran it today 25.40, a new personal best!  It was sprinkling during most of our run.

A spring weekend

Ben with his buddy Beaker

We went to the Botanical Gardens on Saturday where we went on a tulip scavenger hunt.  There were questions we had to answer throughout the gardens.  There are 51,000 tulips on display.  Wonder if they counted them all.

The highlight of the weekend was going over to our friends' house on Saturday evening.  Jeff and Heather's daughter Kelsey kept Sam and Ben entertained.  They collected bugs and I took their golf card out for a spin with the kids.  They have a lake around their community where we caught about 10 bass in a short amount of time.

Sam in perfect form playing bocce ball.  He won some rounds which was fun to see.
